Minister Peter Power announces €10m in funding for Irish and International Non-Governmental Organisations

Project supporting crop production and farm incomes in Ethiopia to receive €600,000

The Minister for State for Overseas Development, Peter Power TD, today announced Irish Aid funding of almost €10m in support of 41 projects in 31 developing countries.

The grants, approved under Irish Aid’s Civil Society Fund, will support the development work of 23 Irish and 8 international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO). Making the announcement, Minister Power said:

“Support for NGOs’ development work is central to Irish Aid’s efforts to reduce global poverty. Irish Aid has built strong partnerships with NGOs and missionaries active in many of the world’s least developed countries. As well as supporting broader development, these organisations play a critical role in galvanising communities to reduce poverty. The funding announced today will strengthen our partnership over the coming years.”

Note to editors:

• Irish Aid is the Government’s official programme of assistance to developing countries. This year Irish Aid will provide over €140 million in support of the overseas development work of Irish and international NGOs.

• The Civil Society Fund focuses on poverty alleviation among the poorest people of the world through the provision of funding for sustainable development programmes and projects.

• The Irish and international NGOs funded by Irish Aid are working in Africa, Asia and Central and South America.
